Increase in the volume of waste managed<\/h3>\n

2018 was a year marked by a substantial increase in the volume of waste electrical and electronic equipment financed and handled through our Collective System of Extended Producer Responsibility (SCRAP).<\/p>\n

Last year we collected a total of 97,536 tons of waste, an increase of 9% in terms of the total volume managed, coming close to achieving the symbolic figure of 100,000 tons.<\/p>\n

Meeting targets<\/h3>\n

The growth in the quantities of waste managed in the domestic sphere, both in reference to the combined SCRAP figures and those of Ecotic, is very positive, bringing us closer to the established collection targets.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

During 2018 Ecotic complied with 87% of its general targets<\/strong>, putting us in line with the general level of compliance of 92% reached jointly by the SCRAPs, with a total of 267,632 tons of an established target of 292,316 tons managed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In regard to waste fractions, Ecotic\u2019s compliance level has risen to 158% for Televisions, Monitors and Screens, 120% for Cooling Appliances, and 100% for Lamps, followed by 88% for the remaining small WEEE fractions and 86% for Large Appliances.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The only fraction that fell short of the target is that corresponding to Air Conditioning, with a 15% compliance level with respect to the target. The difficulty of meeting the target for this waste category, which is generalised across the market, has a significant impact on Ecotic since our share of responsibility for it stands at around 90%. Our overall level of compliance therefore does not meet the target and as a result we are penalized with respect to other SCRAPs.[\/vc_column_text][vc_separator type=”normal” color=”#ffffff” thickness=”20″][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

The growth of the network of collection points across all regions has played an important role in achieving these results. Agreements with local authorities<\/h3>\n

The increase in the collection network has been driven by new collaborative agreements we have reached with local authorities and other entities, to continue to make WEEE recycling accessible anywhere in the country.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the number of WEEE collection points reached 7,709 in non-municipal centres.
