The almost 100,000 tons of waste that we have managed between the domestic and professional markets demonstrates the maintenance of the trend of sustained increase in volumes in recent years, and marks the path of growth that we plan to achieve in the coming years.
Increase in the volume of waste managed
2018 was a year marked by a substantial increase in the volume of waste electrical and electronic equipment financed and handled through our Collective System of Extended Producer Responsibility (SCRAP).
Last year we collected a total of 97,536 tons of waste, an increase of 9% in terms of the total volume managed, coming close to achieving the symbolic figure of 100,000 tons.
The high degree of loyalty of the more than 650 members who rely on us for the compliance of their environmental obligations has been a key factor in this growth that once again exceeded our forecasts.

Domestic and professional sphere
In 2018 domestic waste experienced a growth of 6% reaching 90,909 tons, an increase in the volume of this category of waste by about 40% in just 5 years.

Meeting targets
The growth in the quantities of waste managed in the domestic sphere, both in reference to the combined SCRAP figures and those of Ecotic, is very positive, bringing us closer to the established collection targets.
During 2018 Ecotic complied with 87% of its general targets, putting us in line with the general level of compliance of 92% reached jointly by the SCRAPs, with a total of 267,632 tons of an established target of 292,316 tons managed.
In regard to waste fractions, Ecotic’s compliance level has risen to 158% for Televisions, Monitors and Screens, 120% for Cooling Appliances, and 100% for Lamps, followed by 88% for the remaining small WEEE fractions and 86% for Large Appliances.
The only fraction that fell short of the target is that corresponding to Air Conditioning, with a 15% compliance level with respect to the target. The difficulty of meeting the target for this waste category, which is generalised across the market, has a significant impact on Ecotic since our share of responsibility for it stands at around 90%. Our overall level of compliance therefore does not meet the target and as a result we are penalized with respect to other SCRAPs.

It is also worth noting the significant growth in kilograms of waste per inhabitant and year corresponding to Ecotic registered in the last 5 years, a rise of 1.40 to 1.95 kilograms/inhabitant/year during this period.

Waste collection network
The growth of the network of collection points across all regions has played an important role in achieving these results. At the end of 2018, Ecotic had 10,525 collection points distributed throughout Spain, 18% more than the previous year, and a figure that has almost doubled in the last 5 years.

Agreements with local authorities
The increase in the collection network has been driven by new collaborative agreements we have reached with local authorities and other entities, to continue to make WEEE recycling accessible anywhere in the country.
In 2018, the number of WEEE collection points reached 7,709 in non-municipal centres. A large number of these points complement the existing municipal recycling network and significantly facilitate waste collection by providing locations for citizen’s to bring their waste, and in turn serve as waste collection points for the sectors own companies.
